Even though the global recession continues to linger in the doldrums young people continue grow up and move out of their parents homes. Young folks who more often than not find themselves on a limited budget when it comes time to shop for home furnishings. Does this sound at all familiar? Now used furniture acquired from places like second-hand stores and yard sales is always a great option but the common problem most people face here, is the used furniture all too often needs cleaning. Don't worry. Cleaning furniture isn't that big a deal, just as long as you know a few basics about it. For instance start by checking couch and chair cushions to see if the exterior casing unzips and is removable. If they are then it's just a simple matter of removing the casings, and hand washing them in cold water.

Then when it comes to the rest of the chair or couch, along with the interior cushions there's another proven process that you can implement to get them looking and smelling fresh and new again. Now it sounds crazy but it works great, and that is to take them to a car wash and use the high pressure hose to give them a thorough scrubbing. Then to dry them out simply place the furniture in the back of a pickup truck and drive up and down the freeway for about an hour.

Then yet one more great tip, is look online for clever build your own furniture plans and ideas. Particularly if you're a young person just starting out on your own or heading off to college, you'll be surprised by what you can do with basic materials that you can pick up at the hardware and fabric store. Plus the nice thing about cheap DIY furniture like this is that it's no big deal if it gets something spilled on it.

Then of course if you're filling your new home or apartment with cheap used furniture, you'll probably run into problems when it comes to matching and color coordinating. So this is where good ready-made furniture covers come in handy, and you may be surprised at what's available today. These affordable covers can go a long way towards getting everything looking nice and new, and color-coordinated. Then for the finishing touch use matching throw pillows.

An important thing to keep in mind here through it all is that, there's heck of a lot a lot of deals out there because people are constantly buying new, and replacing their old. So don't snap up the first deal you come across. Instead try to be such strategic. Go through your local classifieds to down all the local yard, and estate sales then hit them all to take an inventory. Then go back or call back to bargain them down on the price.
