Freeware is a Fantastic Internet Resource

By Jeanine Peters

It is totally free to download Freeware. The term Freeware means free software. Freeware is straightforward to download, can be accessed as many times as you wish over limitless period of time, without the need for a license.

There is a vast range of Freeware available. It is a great resource. Many people worry about the risk of viruses and this puts them off downloading Freeware. These are valid concerns, because some of the available Freeware does in fact contain malicious software.

It is really important to take the appropriate steps to keep your computer protected. It is sensible to use the bigger Freeware sites. The trustworthy, reputable sites tend to vet programs before sharing them.

Not all of the Freeware sites do this mind you, as many are much more focussed on quantity not quality. Size will not always indicate safety though as there are sites who will list anything at all to be able to say they have the biggest selection.

With so many different Freeware programs available it is challenging to narrow down the right ones. If you want to be an informed freeware consumer a useful method to find out which sites are good and learn a little more about them is through forums. Save yourself a huge amount of time by learning through other users experiences. Many directories encourage rating from users. This is a great place to look for information.

Some Freeware is so bad that you can see why no person in their right mind would ever think of paying for it. Other programs are useful but most people would not pay to use them.

And then you have cutting edge programs available which have been created by competent individuals. It is difficult for many to get what would posess a programmer to put time and energy into their work only to release it for free. Most programmers hope that they will get credit later on for having created a useful program. Often programmers accept donations as a type of payment for their work, but this is never expected. It is always free. Any donations are strictly voluntary.

A number of people get Freeware mixed up with Shareware. The two are completely different. With Shareware you can use software for a short trial for free, but you have to pay the programmer for the full version if you like it and wish to carry on using it.
