Fundamental SEO Tips

By Peter Lawlor

Search engine optimization or SEO for short is not really a skill that you can learn overnight. You do have to go through some sort of learning curve before you can really maximize its potential for the benefit of your site. You can also take another approach through trial and error but that isn't ideal if you want your site to become famous quickly and hopefully profit through advertisements or the very products and service that you are selling so you won't have to pay for your hosting bills using your own personal savings. Here are a few basic tips that you can try out to steer your site's ranking in the right direction.

Fill You Site with Natural Content

Content is pretty much the main thing that search engines care about so you might as well let the search engines know that your site is ready. You can consider your website ready if you have a good number of articles posted somewhere in your site. These articles are not by any means for decoration purposes. These articles should relate to your site's theme so it is more likely for search engine users to locate your article and ultimately head to your main site.

The articles should have a dual-purpose which means that it should be friendly to both search engines and visitors where visitors should be your top priority. This is why your content should come out naturally for the time being especially if you are not ready for serious optimization. That can always come later anyway.

List Down Possible Keywords for your Site

Millions of people still use search engines to find information online. All you need to do is get into their minds and think about what words they would type in order to locate your site. If your site has a fancy name, keep in mind that people won't be aware of your site's existence until they type in some common keywords that happen to fall within your site.

There is no limit to how many keywords you can list and you certainly do not have to use all of them. To get an idea on how this works, simply try out some keyword phrases and see what results you get. If you see several sites that are like your site, those sites represent your competition and taking on a large competition may not be ideal unless you resort to paid methods. Stick to SEO for the time being because you do not have to pay anything. If figuring out keywords is too tiring, load up a keyword tool like the one in Google AdWords and let the online tool generate some keywords based on your content.

Edit your Content and Implement the Keywords

Once you have constructed a good set of keywords, all you have to do is find ways to insert these keywords without destroying the original thought. A few substitutions can do the trick, but what matters most is that you reread your content before making it live. Whenever possible, try to add keywords to your site headers and subheaders as well because search engines prioritize those when it comes to indexing.

These basic SEO tips fall within your site alone. Once you have some spare time, you can go beyond and create content for article directories to further spread the awareness of your site when people type in relevant keywords.
