Decorators London: Interior Design

By Dexter Watson

This article will provide you with some information regarding how to go about decorating a room. It is recommended that once you have that design, you get in touch with painters and decorators; london decorators will be able to execute any plan that you ask them to.

Style

One of the most important aspects of coming up with a design is working within a certain style. If you do this, then everything is going to seem to fit together. If you don't, then you're running the risk of everything seeming to clash and not looking good together.

There are lots of different sorts of styles that you can go with. They tend to fall within the categories of traditional, contemporary and modern. Within this though there are lots of different possibilities.

A traditional design can come from a specific era such as Victorian or Edwardian. Once you have chosen the style, you can choose the items that you choose to decorate your home so that they fit in with that era.

If you want a contemporary design then you will have a lot more freedom with what you can do. Although you're going to have to remain quite conservative, not pushing the boat out too much, otherwise it will be bordering on "modern". There is nothing wrong with that of course, but you should be aware of the style you are creating.

By going for a modern design you will be freeing yourself up to the maximum degree. There are very few rules or guidelines to go by here, you can come up with a completely unique design. This comes with its dangers though of course, as others may not agree with what you think works.

With the style chosen, you can go about thinking about the objects that you want to have in your room and how you are going to arrange them. And once you know all of that, it's time for the painters and decorators, london will have many companies available which can carry this out for you.

The Focal Point

When you're deciding what to have in the room and how to arrange it all, one of the best ways to go about this is to think about creating a focal point. This is a portion of the room which attention is attracted to the most, and it makes for a feeling that everything is ordered properly.

This does not mean that you should forget about everything else when making a focal point though. The most important aspect of any room is what it is used for. So the functionality should not be compromised by making an attractive design, this is something to bear in mind.

When it comes to making a focal point, the first thing to do is to decide what it is going to be. You could go for something that is already in the room, like a fireplace or perhaps a large window, or you could bring something impressive in yourself. Anything from a table to an interesting light fixture will do the trick.

It's not enough to have an interesting feature in the room though, it can get lost amongst everything else if it is not emphasized. Much of the job to do with decorating the room then has to do with highlighting the focal point.

Drawing attention to the focal point is something that takes quite a lot of skill. There are lots of ways to do it, but it has to be quite subtle. It shouldn't feel as if your attention is being drawn there necessarily. One way of doing this is with the colour scheme. If the room is quite colourful, then having an absence of colour around the focal point will be useful. Otherwise having colour around the focal point will draw attention to it, if the rest of the room is not very colourful.

There are many more ways of emphasizing a focal point, but it's a good idea to have a plan rather than relying on trial and error. That way you can tell the decorators, london having lots, exactly what you want them to do.
