The Bible for Youth

By Honorary Rabbi Jo

The Bible is a remarkable book, but its marvels are sometimes buried remarkably deep. The Student Bible dives deeply but puts that heritage and effect right on that study desk! It's rich, deeply expansive, full of meaning-- but frequently, that meaning is challenging to understand in its original context. The Bible was composed over thousands of years, by dozens of writers. Connecting the dots between their messages can from time to time be tricky. It can be particularly troublesome given that the authors lived in many different cultures; all very different from our own.

All sorts of things can easily get lost in interpretations, through no fault of the translators themselves: humor, poetic devices, and obscure references to the then-current milieu. There comes a time to leave behind casual reading and request some assistance from those who have researched it long before. It is probably time to upgrade to a Student Bible.

What Makes This Student Bible So Special?

A Student Bible is a combination of unique commentary: whether generalized or exact, which aims to expand the reader's understanding of the most essential book they could ever read. In Psalm 119:115, we find this, "Your Word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." (NIV) God's Word shows us the way we should live our lives, but in some cases it can be difficult for us to understand how to apply that to our everyday lives. The NIV Student Bible is constructed to focus a light on, and bring incredible insight to how the words composed millennia ago have the ability to guide us even today.

The title, Students Bible, does not necessarily mean only a student can make use of this Bible, or that you need to be an undergraduate in order to profit. This category of Bible simply spotlights content especially created with the student in mind; regardless if you are a high school student, college student, or student at your local church night Bible Study class. So don't let the title steer you away just because you are not presently pursuing a degree in higher education. Think of this is a Bible for people pursuing a higher level of understanding in God's Word.

Study To Have Right Answers To Questions The World Is Currently Asking

2 Peter 3:15 tells us, "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that you have." (NIV) It is very important that we can answer those who call into question us regarding our faith. Today, skeptics run rampant, claiming the Bible is full of contradictions; that suffering disproves the existence of a loving God, or that science has actually eliminated virtually any need for God whatsoever. Others claim Christianity arose from pagan religions, or that its process of ethics is barbaric, antiquated, or inferior to various other religions. Apologetics Bibles are for the even more devoted student or rising apologist. These include commentary as well as by-lines composed by Ravi Zacharias, Norman Geisler, J. P. Moreland, Hank Hanegraaff as well as others on all of the above themes, and even more!
